    I recently read somewhere that the Americans wanted the Mosquito with propellers that contra rotated to keep the platform stable. We brits to make things easier for ourselves wanted to keep things rotating clockwise. So a single engined spitfire or Hurricane it’s prop would go clockwise. A mossie having 2 motors also had 2 clockwise spinning props (this also led to the swing to the right when power was applied and to why Captain Brown found the Mossie would invert so quick if an engine failed), and of course the grand old Lancaster would have 4 props all going in the same direction. I have an itch of a question, one of those that seems to crop up now and then. 1 do the 2 Merlin’s need to be synchronised on a Mossie and on a Lanc. Do you have the same issue from a mercury radial engined aeroplane. Please let me know if you can.

    I recall visiting the build of Glyn Powell’s Mosquito and amazed at the accuracy he had done with control wire access holes so accurately drilled through bulkheads angled diagonally up through the fuselage from one end to the other. It is a pity he didn’t complete his own build which followed the first one, or maybe he did? I recall seeing an advert of the main structure for sale a few years back I wonder what the outcome was.

  • @lieutenantdan4722
    @lieutenantdan4722 10 месяцев назад

    But, this is another guess that this is just a mold to make a fiberglass mold and make the fuselage out of fiberglass.

  • @lieutenantdan4722
    @lieutenantdan4722 10 месяцев назад

    NO WAY are they building this fuselage like the original Mosquito fuselage. The original was planked with thin plywood strips glued to the framework and held with secured metal straps till the glue dried. The method they are using here will make the plane too heavy if they intend to fly.

    He 219 didn’t have the mossie performance but did it really need it? It just had to be faster than the bombers. It wasn’t like there was s shortage of targets later in the war. There were 1000 plane raids. Their biggest problem was running out of ammo!

    • @wanderschlosser1857
      @wanderschlosser1857 10 месяцев назад

      Well yes, if you want to shoot down the target marking or reconnaissance Mosquitos it was a problem. Both would have helped to get the British night bombers off target. Way more effective than shooting them down.

    UK carriers were relatively small compared with US ones. The Mosquito was considered rather dicey for landing even on airfields it had to be handled with care with a nice reserve of speed. Yet he put one down.on a carrier.

  • @davidelliott5843
    @davidelliott5843 11 месяцев назад

    The US Navy refused to accept Vought F-4U Corsair because its long nose made deck landing difficult. The British took them. Eric Brown came in with a curved approach that kept the deck and batsman in view. No problem at all. Royal Navy loved the aircraft. USN eventually got the message.

  • @davidelliott5843
    @davidelliott5843 11 месяцев назад

    Mosquito was sadly underrated by the War Office. It was actually far more suitable for area bombing than the heavy bombers. Two Mossies going what kind heavy could do. We actually only heavies for big bombs like Tallboy. But tell all that to “Bomber Harris” of any of the American bomber generals.

    If it was so wonderful, why didn't the U.S. Air Force use it as an escort fighter? Because it sucked in that regard, and P-47's with drop tanks had a longer reach.

    This is very interesting to watch, but it does explain why it took so long to get the moulds made. The project needs to get a professional site carpenter to give tips on how to speed up the process e.g. have 2 cordless drills, one with the drill bit and the other with a countersunk bit, or a combined drill/countersink, also use screws in a strip, not individually inserted.
